Conclusions
_ The benefit of mudguards can be seen below where Rob and I have just returned after a wet ride.
_I’ve been riding with the rear mudguards fitted for about
six months without any issues.
In use they don’t rub or rattle. The cable tie to the draft bar can slip and so the only maintenance is to check that the rear mudguards are not rubbing before getting onto the bike, by lifting each side up and spinning the wheel.
The advantage of having mudguards is tremendous. After fitting the front guard I found that the ability to see in the rain made a big difference, its also really good when riding past farm gates that you don't get splattered by cow muck. The rear guards stop that cold unpleasant sensation of water running down your neck, then under any wet weather clothing and down your back. Although you still get wet in the rain, its where you expect it to come from - straight out of the sky rather than via the road.
