Racing
Do you want to race? Then handcyling could be the sport for you.
We have members who currently race in the British Cycling disability series, Rudy Project time trials and various races on the continent arranged by the European Handbike Circuit.
The 2011 season ended with Chris Madden in 5th and Rob Wickham in 6th place overall in their H2 category in the EHC series. Karen Darke and Rachel Morris also finished in 6th place after missing a substantial number of the EHC races. This was a fantastic result for these four handcyclists.
Congratulation to Chris Madden, Rob Wickam and Brian Aldis who took the top three places in this year’s British Cycling Disability Series.
If you are new to racing then you can turn up at any of the British Human Power Club (BHPC) races with no preregistration. They hold events at various circuits throughout the country - from Fowlmead(Deal) to Salt Ayre (Lancaster). Their only requirement is that you have a human powered machine, which a handcycle obviously is, and that you wear a helmet while racing. It is the end of their season so there are no events remaining but if you check either the events page here or their website early next year you will get dates and locations.
There are a few, but not many, running events which allow handcycles to enter and they can also provide an introduction to racing. Again check the events page for details.
You can use the forum to contact other handcyclists to see who will be attending what events.
