A Step by Step Guide to Racing in Europe
Handbike racing in Europe is fast, furious and lots of fun. It’s also really easy to enter and everyone is welcome, so what are you waiting for – get yourself out there! Follow the step-by-step guide below.
1) Get your British Cycling Race Licence
In order to take part in the European Handcycling Circuit races you will need a racing licence. To get a racing licence you must first purchase a British Cycling silver or gold membership. The silver costs £36 per year and the gold is £64 per year. Included in the membership are various other benefits such as personal accident insurance and legal support. You can purchase these here.
As a British Cycling member you are then eligible to purchase a racing licence. This costs £32 per year and can be obtained here.
The good news is that in previous years British Cycling have offered a considerable discount to handcyclists. Email British Cycling directly here stating that you are a handcyclist and asking them to apply the discount. Alternatively contact Matt Lindley and ask for more information.
2) Select your race(s)
Go to the European Handcycling Circuit on-line race calendar and registration page, on the European Handcycling Federation website and select the event you would like to race in.
3) Register
To the right of where the event is listed click on the link ‘Register Now’ then fill out the online registration form.

Beware, this is sometimes written in German or French, but often when this is the case if scroll to the bottom of the page you will find it in English. If not then get the dictionary out !
